It may seem odd for a vegetable farm to bake and sell sourdough goods, but ever since our time in Australia sourdough has been a passion project for me (Hannah). I’ve been baking and experimenting for the last 6 years off and on, more seriously in the last year. The 2018 season was a big year for us, selling close to 40 loaves (baked out of our home kitchen!) every Saturday at the BisMarket farmers market. Our sourdough sales are also a great source of off-season income for the farm. With increased experimentation over this long, seemingly never-ending winter, and access to a much larger certified kitchen (with TWO ovens) I’ve decided to offer a “Bread CSA” of sorts; more specifically a CSB/Community Supported Bakery or Sourdough Bread Subscription.
It will operate similar to our vegetable CSA. You sign up and pay before the first delivery and for 4 weeks you get 2 fresh baked loaves: 1 Farmhouse Sourdough + 1 rotating option (think honey whole wheat, cheddar & chive, or cinnamon raisin swirl). We’ll meet every Wednesday in Bismarck (TBD, but possibly the BisMan Food Co-op) at a TBD time. The first delivery will be March 20 and will run until April 10.
All of our breads are baked with Organic flours and almost always organic ingredients (with the exception of the cheese and local honey). The rotating loaf schedule will be posted by March 20. Along with the bread, I’ll be sending a weekly newsletter on the bread and my musings from the kitchen.
